The Department of banking and finance was established on the 30-01-20-2014following the senate approval (176th senate session of 30-01-2013. The department is currently having 100,200 and 300 level students to run a four year programme. Banking and Finance aims at developing students with the view to acquiring insight into the intricacies of Finance and Banking as well as insight into effective financial management and decision making. She seeks to providing training and research opportunities as this will develop the mind and impart both theoretical and practical knowledge on individual student and to develop self confident to enable them function effectively in the banking sector and finance related organizations in our community and beyond.

The philosophy aims at developing students with view to acquiring insight into the intricacies of banking and finance as well as insight to effective financial management and decision making. Training in this discipline will develop the mind and impart both theoretical and practical knowledge on this individual student, develop self confident to enable them function effectively in the banking sector and finance related organizations. The programme shall produce among others banking and finance specialist who would develop positive human factor traits like hard work, probity, accountability transparency, commitments which are necessary for national development. It shall expand programme to devote attention to the various aspects of international financial business so as to enable graduate to extend their skills to global operations and to engage in research activities that contribute to the advancement of frontiers of management science and technology as well as opportunities for self-sustenance and self-fulfillment within such environment.

Undergraduate Admission Requirement:

i) UME:five O’ Level credits, passed at credit level In English language, Mathematics and any other three subjects, passed preferably from social sciences. An acceptable level of performance in joint matriculation examination is required as may be determined from time to time. ii) Direct Entry: HSC/GCE.‘A’ level passed in two subjects chosen from Accounting, Economics, Management, Geography, Statistics, Biology, Commerce, Agric. Science Mathematics and English Language. In addition, candidate must have five O’level credits including mathematics & English Language and meet the requirement . iii) Holders of OND Certificate in banking and finance or related discipline are eligible for admission in to 200 Level provided their programmes cover certain basic courses offered in the Department up to 200 Level. In addition, the candidate must have five O’ level credit including mathematics and English language and meet the requirement. iv)HND in relevant discipline with at least lower credit .In addition to five credits. v)Certificate of relevant professional bodies determined by senate in addition to five credit passes as in 46.4(i) above.
